Wow, I never thought I would find myself here. I'm a social worker in southwest Florida. I work with children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned by 1 or both parents. In December, I was diagnosed and hospitalized with menangitis. The non-profit I work for didn't pay me for the almost 2 months I was out of work although I had more than enough medical documentation and my boss came to visit me in the hospital regularly. I fought their policy and instead of getting paid, I got written up. They said I wasn't entitled to get paid because I wasn't "an active employee."
I can't even begin to afford my rent. I've posted all my furniture on craigslist in the hope of raising some money. I desperately need to break my lease which the management company states I must give 60 days notice (2 months rent x $759) plus pay another $759 (total: $2277) when I move out. If I had the money, I wouldn't be moving out!
Please, please, please can someone help? I can send you furniture, books, and a lifetime of gratitude. I don't know what else to do.
